The new album released by Gega New Music Company may grab the attention of any folklore lover. It is called `Passing with the Time` and contains popular melodies that people have been singing, dancing and listening to for many years in Bulgaria and around the world. What makes it different is the fact that the songs are recorded to sound as close as it is possible to the authentic ones, and thus demonstrate a unique and charming presentation of these well-known and beloved song melodies. Some of them are solo instrument pieces, other are solo performances, accompanied by one on another solo instrument.
`Passing with the Time` is a result of the almost two-year-long hard labor of Milen Slavov – composer, music producer, accordionist, who has lived in USA since 1997. The recordings are made in MS Music Agency Studio in USA, which he owns. Milen Slavov has taught at UCLA, and has twice received Performing Arts Fellowships in Music Composition; from the California Arts Council (2000) and the Mississippi Arts Commission (2002).
In the album has taken part the Strandzha singer Zhivka Papancheva, who also lives in USA and participates in all concerts and presentations of Milen Slavov. Her performance is beautiful and thrilling, every word, every syllable is perfectly audible.
The other musicians who helped for making this CD a reality were Petyo Kostadinov, who plays the gaida (now he is a soloist in the Folklore Orchestra of the Bulgarian National Radio), Ljuben Dosev, who plays the kaval (he is a teacher in the Music and Dance Art Academy in Plovdiv and conducts the Orchestra of Ensemble Trakia, Plovdiv), and Teodor Dimitrov, who plays the gadulka.
Most characteristic for the album `Passing with the Time` is the deliberately seeking of the ancient vocal manner and instrumental sound producing, reminding the unique and authentic style of the Bulgarian folklore.
