Second Bulgarian Dance Festival VEREA 2012

For the second year in a roll, Chicago will become the meeting place of all connoisseurs and lovers of Bulgarian folk music and dance. The second Bulgarian VEREA Dance Festival 2012 will take place on March 31, organized by the Bulgarian Folk Club “Verea”. The festival is unique in that it is solely devoted to the Bulgarian folklore – it is for the first time that an event of this scale is put together on U.S. territory to promote Bulgarian folklore.
The festival first took place on April 9, 2011, and five ensembles participated in Chicago alone featuring more than 100 dancers. Last year’s folk fest was more of a demonstration of the folk dance called “horo” - a kind of chain folk dance of various complex rhythms and steps.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP - 7 – 8 April 2012, Sofia, Bulgaria
Fans of Macedonian folklore will be able to learn authentic dances, preserved until today on the territory of Macedonia.
Macedonian rhythms and steps will be presented in authentic Vardar style – typical dances for the region and specific style of performing of some folk dances popular around the whole Macedonia.
The workshop is suitable for beginners and advanced dancers.
TEACHING:
Sasko Anastasov (Republic of Macedonia) - Artist of Macedonian folklore, Choreographer of Ensemble "Vila Zora" - the town of Veles, Teacher at seminars for Balkan folklore in many countries all around the word.

The folklore of Bulgaria is full of folklore dances, songs and music ever since our ancestors were part of being and their lifestyle, are attending every day or celebration. Bulgarian folk dances, songs and dances today are various not only in nature, complexity and style of performance, they are an expression of spirituality, temperament, individualism and mostly Bulgarian spirit.
Experience gained during the years of dance events, forums and spectacles helped us to understand that this unique heritage is in our hands to serve us properly, must be preserved in the same spirit in which our legacy.

We invite you to take part in International children’s folklore festival SOFIA 2012.
The International Children’s Folklore Festival Sofia 2012 will be organized in Sofia from 26 to 29 April, 2012. The festival aims to present to the wide audience the children’s cultural heritage of different nations through the presentation of traditional folklore music in an authentic and stylized form.
