A Bulgarian folklore singer Stoyan Varnaliev prepares Thracian meals `Sol Piper` Magazine

The fans call him `Orpheus from Yambol`. Stoyan Varnaliev is one of those Bulgarians, who are endowed with a rich voice, and believe performing of folklore songs is a mission of them. He is a student of the recognized Thracian singer Valkana Stoyanova, who passed more than a hundred authentic Thracian songs on to him. One part of them she had preserved, but never recorded. Some of the songs tell about shepherds and rebels, and while one listens he feels as though he could smell the baking lamb in the Mountain.
Folklore festival (sabor) Folkloren Venets - Bojura

The Orpheus Daughters – charity tour in Switzerland

On a month charity tour in Switzerland under the motto `The Great voices of Bulgaria` on April 15 will leave the group for folklore songs and church singing `The Orpheus’ Daughters`, that was announced by Teodora Kaleinska, the director of the `Open Door` Resources Center, the coo-arranger of the event.
XV International Festival of Masquerade Games "Surva"

The International "Surva" Festival of the Masquerade Games preserves, continues, develops and popularizes the authentic masque customs, Bulgarian traditional mask games like unique original event in the European masque-carnival tradition. With its character of a competition the event becomes a meeting and review of the live carriers of the traditional young men's masque customs, mostly popular like "Survakari" and "Kukeri".

All over the world peolpe meet spring with joy and new hope but it is only in Bulgaria where it is saved as an ancient custom.
If you are walking along the streets in Bulgaria on the 1st of March you will witness many smiling faces. But first of all your eyes will be captured by martenitsas. Everyone has decorated their clothes with them. Moreover, you can see decorated dogs and cats. In the small villages in the mountains people decorate their domestic animals: lambs, kids, young horses. Houses have their own martenitsa, as well.
